What is Pilates?

Mistakes we commonly make in our lifetimes frequently involve moving and exercising without assuming the correct posture and stance (possibly due to inflexibility or weakness). Repeatedly performing these movements incorrectly might not be painful at first but will lead to injury if sustained.

Pilates can get you moving safely and effectively. It was introduced in the early 1890s by German-born Joseph Pilates. It incorporates western exercise techniques with martial arts and Yoga.

Importantly, there is evidence-based research to confirm that Pilates can provide relief from lower back pain (Rydeard et al 2006) and many other injuries. However, for the exercises to be effective they need to be tailored to the individual and taught by a professional…

Our Pilates classes here at Body Consultancy are termed ‘functional’ by professionals, which means they are designed to be useful exercises to improve you in areas of strength, flexibility, balance & posture that are commonly impacted in day-to-day life.
