Physiotherapy
Conditions We Treat
Physiotherapists treat a variety of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
Back and neck pain
Back pain, neck pain and sciatica are the most common problems that Physiotherapists encounter. The causes of these conditions include bad posture, back strains from lifting and twisting or sports-related injuries. Leg or arm tingling, numbness and aching are often associated with spinal dysfunction.
Headaches
Headaches due to stress, tension or injury are another commonly treated problem. The upper spine and associated muscles can become tight and dysfunctional, resulting in headaches. Poor posture is another major cause.
Joint pain
Many people suffer from joint degeneration, a natural wearing away of the joint lining, and which may be associated with onset of arthritis. This condition often leads to pain in the knee and hip joints. Pain relief for these conditions is well managed through physiotherapy.
Sports injuries
Our physiotherapists are experts in sports injuries. They assess the injury, diagnose and treat the problem, advise on rehabilitation and set an personalised exercise rehabilitation program. A team approach involving the athlete, coach and parents (for the younger athlete) is important to speeding recovery. We also undertake biomechanical assessments of swing, throwing, stroke, and running mechanics. Common sports injuries that we treat include tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, overuse injuries, muscular pain and weakness, tendonitis, knee ligament problems, knee pain, groin pain and ankle sprain (with swelling and pain). Our sports injury specialists will help you get back to full potential.
Whiplash injuries
Whiplash injuries cause neck, shoulder and back pain. We specialise in treating these and other traumatic injuries resulting from car accidents.
Poor posture
The increasing importance of personal computers at work and home leisure has brought with it an increase in bad posture. Sitting for long periods at a computer invariably leads to rounded shoulders and poor posture, and often results in headaches as well as neck, back, and shoulder pain.
Posture-related disorders are now extremely common, and the use of physiotherapy has proven very successful in resolving them. In some cases, bad posture may be due to a spinal curvature (or scoliois), which is managed by a programme of stretching and exercise.
Falls among the elderly
Physiotherapy is effective in preventing and overcoming levels of disability. Falls are a major cause of injury among the elderly, the causes and results of which can be managed effectively through exercise and advice.
To relieve pain and improve movement, Physiotherapists use joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscle stretching, nerve mobilisation, taping, acupuncture, setting specific exercise programs, as well as specialist treatments such as ultrasound or interferential equipment.
