First Visit & Treatment
Your first visit will consist of an initial evaluation, where the physiotherapist will first learn the history of your symptoms. A thorough assessment will follow of the injured area and the area around it. Your Physio will usually want to look at your spine to see if it is one of the causes of your problem. For example, pains in the knee can be referred from the lower back.
Your assessment will help to form a diagnosis, on which an appropriate treatment plan will be based. You will usually receive treatment and advice on your first visit, along with training in specific exercises.
You may require further treatment sessions: how many will depend on the severity of the condition, how long it has been a problem, and how well you take advice.
If your condition is not one that will benefit from physiotherapy, your Physio will tell you during your first visit. You may be referred to your doctor or an orthopaedic consultant for further investigation, or alternatively to another clinician.
