Chiropractic - General Information
Established Profession
Chiropractic is a tried and tested form of treatment. In the
western world, Chiropractors are consulted almost as often as
conventional doctors and dentists. The profession was
established over 100 years ago. Throughout this last century a
strong scientific evidence base has been built that demonstrates
how effective it can be in the treatment of many complaints.
Independent Research
Independent research studies by respected international
organisations, such as the British Medical Research Council,
show that Chiropractic was found to be more effective than
hospital outpatient treatment for low back pain. The United
States Army conducted a huge study into Chiropractic and now all
United States' soldiers have full access to Chiropractic
services. This is because it was found to be the most effective
long lasting treatment for spinal problems not requiring
surgery. Chiropractic is an holistic form of treatment;
'holistic' means that your general state of health and your work
and social lifestyle will be taken into account, not just the
area that is causing you pain. Advice and perhaps exercises will
be given to help prevent your problem recurring. Your
Chiropractor will always look at the cause of your problem, not
just the symptoms, and so reduce the likelihood of a recurrence.
Degree Education & Statutory Regulation
Chiropractors attend a full time B.Sc. degree course graduating
with honours at the end of an information packed four years.
They have the ability to diagnose many complaints and will
screen for any serious diseases. (No GP Referral is required.)
In the UK there is now an Act of Parliament that governs how
Chiropractors' practise. The General Chiropractic Council has a
register of Chiropractors who are allowed to practise in the UK.
The Chiropractic Act protects the title Chiropractor and details
how practitioners are primary health care, do not require a
GP referral and they may use the title Dr.

Body Consultancy
Chiropractors are also affiliated to a professional
organisation called the British Chiropractic Association (BCA).
It takes five years to become a fully qualified member of
the BCA, so you can be fully confident in your
practitioner's skill, expertise and dedication. |
Multidiscipline Approach
At Body Consultancy we also have professionally qualified
Physiotherapists, Acupuncturists, Podiatrists, Clinical
Nutritionists, Sports Massage Therapists and Psychotherapists.
Your Chiropractor may refer you with your consent to another
practitioner if required. We also have an excellent relationship
with local consultants and surgeons. When you visit your Body
Consultancy Chiropractor it is important to remember that there
is no such thing as a standard treatment. Chiropractic is a
profession that uses many forms of therapy not just
manipulation. You will benefit from an individual treatment plan
tailored specifically to your needs. The focus of the plan will
be to return you to your full potential as quickly as possible.
The old saying that prevention is better than cure is very much
a central philosophy of Chiropractic and Body Consultancy
practitioners generally. The quicker you receive the correct
treatment the easier it is to reduce future problems.
Prolonged pain with no specific onset should always be
investigated further. This is because many illnesses first show
up as aches and pains. Body Consultancy Chiropractors are fully
trained to screen for any serious disease.
