Pilates and Lower Back Pain

Struggling with lower back pain? Mistakes we commonly make in our lifetimes frequently involve moving and exercising without assuming the correct posture and stance (possibly due to inflexibility or weakness). Repeatedly performing these movements incorrectly might not be painful at first but will lead to injury if sustained.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a mat-based workout that teaches you how to use the core muscles to rebuild strength around the spine. You learn how to control movement around a neutral spine position as well as building strength in the postural muscles. There are also some specific spine mobilisations and stretches.

How can Pilates help with lower back pain?

Lower back pain causes weakness in the core stabilising muscles and also creates abnormal movement patterns. Pilates retrains the core stabilising muscles and corrects abnormal movement patterns.

…and that’s where we come in!

Our Pilates classes here at Body Consultancy are termed ‘functional’ by professionals, which means they are designed to be useful exercises to improve you in areas of strength, flexibility, balance & posture that are commonly impacted in day-to-day life, such as your lower back.
